About Us
Our mission
Our mission is to enhance local & regional food security by providing our community with healthy, locally grown food. The Mack Park Farm is a municipal farm that produces thousands of pounds of organically grown food annually, which is distributed free of charge to the Salem community through The Salem Pantry and community farmers’ markets. The idea for the Mack Park Farm came from a recommendation in the 2018 Salem Community Food Assessment to use city land to grow food for the community.
In addition to addressing food security, the farm serves as a model of sustainability. Solar panels generate enough electricity to supply all of our energy needs. The farm has an extensive water catchment system that reduces our dependence on the city’s water supply. Our food forest guilds surrounding the farm provide shade, prevent flooding, attract pollinators, and promote soil health. These guilds contain a wide variety of fruit trees, berry bushes, and perennial herbs and vegetables that are open for public picking.
